    The answer is surprising because it's more often than most imagine. Your brakes should be checked every 6 months with each tire rotation.

    Here's a list of signs that your brake system has had it's share of wear and tear:

    1. Screeching, grinding, squealing, rubbing and other loud noises
    2. Steering wheel and/or pedal vibrating and pulsing
    3. Noticeably pressing further on brakes to slow down and stop
    4. Burning smell from tires (It's a terrible smell you can't miss)
